Poland
Although Poland was not one of the Four Powers, they had, nevertheless,
been included in the Potsdam agreement relating to the Air
Corridors. This was because the formal reason for the outbreak of World
War 2 was the invasion of Poland by forces of the Third Reich. During the
period of the Air Corridors, history had, of course, placed Poland under
the influence and control of Russia. It follows that the Polish Airline,
LOT, operated out of Berlin Schönefeld, an airport which had no official
communication with either The Berlin Air Safety Centre
or Tempelhof. The arrival of an aircraft of the
Polish Airline, LOT, requesting corridor clearance would, therefore, come
unannounced until already airborne, when the aircraft called to Air Traffic
Control at Tempelhof . This produced the odd headache
or two for the controllers.
